Life Lessons Community – Overcoming Addiction

I have the utmost respect for people who are willing to share the truth about life’s challenges and how they have overcome and or learned from them to make them stronger. Here, our friend, Rich Brierley shares his challenge of addiction and how his life lessons have shaped him into what he is today, a new husband and someone who now helps others struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. He’s paying it forward! Thanks Rich!

  1. I am so grateful for seeing this link on facebook. I didn’t know about this website. I have known Rich and his wife since highschool, and like him, have battled with addiction. I have also found the peace that one finds through recovery. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, commonly know as LDS or Mormons, and fell away at the age of 15. I never had a understanding of the love our Savior has for us. Like Rich mentioned, I had a lot of self hate, which I am sure is common in addiction. It wasn’t until November 5, 2003, through a lot of miracles, I woke up with a knowledge of the Atoning love from our Father in heaven, and for the first time in 15 or so years, felt His love and that I was worth SOMETHING. I started the LDS 12 steps and started going back to church. I read the Book of Mormon and finished on May 8, 2004, the day I went through the temple for the first time. It is fascinating how the Book of Mormon is basically getting out of bondage. Everyone has different bondages. I am grateful for this website and people like the Larsen’s and Rich and his wife and the 12 steps. I know that we are put on earth to learn and face challenges. I also know that we are to help others, that when you learn the tools of recovery or learn a ‘life lesson’ we need to help others learn as well. That is what life is all about. Thank you Larsens
